Tradeline Definition - What is a Tradeline?

A tradeline is any account listed on your credit report. Credit cards, auto loans, mortgages, student loans, all of these are tradelines.

What information a tradeline contains

Every tradeline on your report shows the same core details:

Date the account was opened
Credit limit or loan amount

How tradelines affect your credit score

Your credit score is basically a summary of all your tradelines combined. The two factors that carry the most weight are payment history (35%) and credit utilization (30%).

Age matters too. A tradeline that’s been open for 15 years does more for your score than one opened last month.

Authorized user tradelines

An authorized user tradeline is a credit card account that someone else adds you to. When they add you, that account shows up on your credit report as if it were your own.
