Selling Tradeline Accounts: What You Need to Know

Selling tradeline accounts means you add buyers as authorized users on your credit cards for a fee. You earn money every time someone gets added, and you can do this multiple times per month with the same cards.

This works because buyers want to improve their credit scores by piggybacking on your positive payment history and credit limits.

If you have good credit and established cards, this is one of the easier side hustles to start.

How much you earn selling tradelines

Your earnings depend on four things:

  • Age of your credit cards (older = more valuable)
  • Credit limits on those cards (higher = better)
  • Number of cards you sell
  • How often you sell them each month

Cards that are 5+ years old with $15,000+ limits can earn $150+ per posting. Newer cards with smaller limits might earn $40-$80.

Most sellers earn between $500-$2,000 monthly once they have 5+ active tradelines listed.

How to sell tradelines without getting shut down

Banks don’t love authorized user selling because the users aren’t spending money on the accounts. Selling AUs isn’t illegal but it does go against some banks terms of service. Knowing which banks are safe vs unsafe is the key.

For instance, you want to avoid selling Bank of America cards like the plague! This bank is known for shutting down accounts that add authorized users. It’s not worth messing around with them at all!

An example of some banks that are safe for tradelines are:

  • Citi
  • Discover
  • American Express
  • Barclays

Work with a company that limits how many users get added to your cards (psst, Tradeline Express). Too many users at once increases shutdown risk and nobody, especially us, wants to see that happen.

Getting started as a tradeline seller

You want to have at least one credit card that’s 2+ years old with a perfect payment history. Cards with higher limits and longer age earn more like we’ve stated earlier.

Sign up with a tradeline company that handles the buyers, payments, and compliance. You just provide your non-private card info (bank name, limit, how old, etc) and add users when the company tells you to. You can sell tradelines on your own, but it’s a lot more leg-work.

You can check out how much you can earn with us for free by using this CALCULATOR. This shows you exactly what your cards are worth based on age and limit.

If you’re still uncomfortable with the whole thing, please continue doing your research and/or reach out to us with your questions.
